Outpatient Services

Outpatient Facility

Our outpatient facility is located on the top floor of 2200 South State Street (Suite 200) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The public entrance is located on the south side of the building. We have a fantastic team of therapists who work tirelessly with our outpatient clients.

Outpatient Treatment

In our outpatient program, we currently serve adult men, ages 18 years and older, who are diagnosed with a substance use disorders. Clients who receive services in our outpatient program typically attend between 5 to 15 hours per week and attend an individual therapy session at least twice each month. For those entering our outpatient program, we do a thorough assessment to determine if an outpatient level of care is best suited for their needs. We specialize in helping people with co-occurring mental health disorders, veterans, those involved in the criminal justice system, people with low to no income, and those who have unstable or no housing.

First Step House strives to ensure that each client receives the appropriate services according to the individual’s needs. To accomplish this, we employ diverse therapeutic modalities across our continuum of care.  Our therapists work to address the stresses of life outside of a residential treatment setting, as well as addressing the needs of individuals who are newly sober and may be uncertain as to their commitment to recovery. Family interaction, in the form a weekly family groups and monthly family activities, are highly promoted in our outpatient setting.  During these classes, families are taught the basics of addiction as well as how addiction interacts with, and often complicates family relationships.

Length of Stay

Lengths of stay vary based upon the person’s treatment goals and individual needs. The length of stay will be determined by the client and the counselor as part of the client’s treatment plan. Treatment plans are updated regularly to ensure appropriate and responsive treatment.

Hours & Schedule

We offer groups, classes, case-management services, and individual therapy from morning until evening at our outpatient facility. This allows us to accommodate the various work schedules of the people we serve.

  • Administrative and Clinical Hours:
    • Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am - 9:00 pm
    • Friday from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

Treatment Model

Our general treatment approach is based on Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). Although REBT provides our clinicians with a general framework, we do not limit ourselves to this modality. We offer a broad range of treatment services, from 12-step classes to Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Our program is not 12-step specific, however, we support participation in community-based AA groups as well as alternative recovery support groups.

Funding & Payment

We offer some of the lowest treatment costs in the country and work hard to help clients and family members reduce financial barriers to treatment. Through our partnerships with Salt Lake County Behavioral Health, the Department of Workforce Services, and other funding entities, we are able to offer assistance for those who qualify.  For more information about funding assistance please contact us.
